Zemithang

Wondering what this place is about? Well it’s nothing special. Just a secluded place beside a river to enjoy the forests. So nothing special.

But then, if its nothing special why would you want to go there.

Ever wondered how peace looks like… It looks like Zemithang. May be I am over exaggerating, but I am truly in love with this place and any over exaggeration is incapable of making me take my words back.

Tawang is a well known tourist spot in Arunachal Pradesh. Well, Zemithang is just 4hours from this tourist spot. If you are looking for shopping places and fancy restaurants to enjoy traditional food then you should probably not come here. Because this place is not here to provide all that.

But, if you want to sit beside the Nyamjangchu River alone or with your loved ones, and eat with the locals in their house and go for, not trekking, but on long walks to appreciate the wilderness; then you should not miss this place.

It’s worth visiting for the journey you take to come here. Coming through those broken roads and passing in between waterfalls, it’s not less than an adventure. And when you look out from the window you can see the tales of the Indo-China war and hear the echoes of Tibetan Buddhism travelling with you.

How can you reach there?
I can take shared sumo from Guwahati. You should make prior bookings in the Sumo Stand at ASTC, Paltan bazaar, Guwahati. I booked a seat in the sumo from Guwahati to Bomdila. The sumo leaves at 5.30am and you will reach Bomdila by 4.00pm. You can book a hotel before your arrival; there are many hotels near the sumo stand where they will drop you in Bomdila. As soon as you arrive, you should book a ticket for Tawang for the next day. If you wish to explore Bomdila, you can stay for a night there. The sumo for Tawang leaves at 5.30 am in the morning and you will reach Tawang by 2.00pm. Exploring Tawang will take 2days. You can stay at the Tourist lodge which is close to the sumo/bus stand. They provide comparatively cheap accommodations. Travelling by reserve vehicle can prove to be a costly affair. You can explore the city on foot, but for many destinations you will have to hire a vehicle as they quite far from the town. If you wish to go to Zemithang directly, you can take a shared sumo or bus the day you reach. But the last public vehicle is at 2.00pm so it’s largely a matter of luck whether or not you’ll get a drive. If not you’ll have to spend the night in Tawang. The next morning you can leave for Zemithang. The shared sumo leaves at 5.30am. And you’ll reach Pangchen Valley in 4 hours.

Essentials: Don’t forget to take your Inner Line Permit from Arunachal Bhawan in Guwahati. You cannot enter Arunachal Pradesh without a permit. You will get the permit in a day. Fill the form in the morning and get the permit in the afternoon.
